๐Ÿ”ฅ Opposition Demands Urgent Winter Session: Tensions Soar in Nepal! ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต

Nepal opposition political parties have demanded the government to immediately convening the winter session of parliament.

18-Jan-2025: In a dramatic move, Nepal's opposition political parties have united to demand the immediate convening of the winter session of parliament! โšก A powerful meeting, held on Friday at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, saw key players from six major opposition parties, including CPN-Maoist Center, National Independent Party, Unified Socialist Party, and more, calling out the governmentโ€™s delay in holding the session. ๐Ÿšจ Chairman of the main opposition, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, strongly condemned the government's move to issue ordinances instead of respecting the parliament. The opposition warned that this could lead to a "crisis in democracy and the rule of law." ๐Ÿ˜ก In a statement, Dahal emphasized, "The majority must respect the minority in a parliamentary system!" and vowed that if the government doesn't act immediately, they would demand a special session and even launch a "strong struggle." ๐Ÿ’ช The opposition parties also slammed the government for its alleged corruption, economic mismanagement, and attempts to bypass the parliamentary process. With inflation soaring and public debt rising, the discontent among the people is palpable. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ธ The governmentโ€™s continued reliance on ordinances has further strained their relationship with the people, as allegations of protecting the corrupt and stifling anti-corruption campaigns have surfaced. The opposition warned that the current government's actions, including the politicization of legal processes and the issuing of controversial ordinances, are creating an atmosphere of tyranny, arbitrariness, and dictatorship. They demand the immediate reconvening of parliament to restore order and accountability. โš–๏ธ The stakes are high as Nepal faces a critical moment in its political landscape. ๐Ÿ’ฌ PM Oli emphasized that the ordinance was crafted after careful consideration, incorporating feedback from top leaders of the Nepali Congress, bureaucrats, experts, and the concerns of entrepreneurs. The Prime Minister also dismissed the claims that the President had stopped the land ordinance, calling such explanations "unacceptable." His remarks came as part of his defense of the government's efforts to push forward with the ordinance. โš–๏ธ

๐Ÿž๏ธ Balen's Sarcasm on Land Ordinance Sparks Debate ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต

๐ŸŒŸ Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor, Balen Shah, has taken a sharp jab at the recently issued land-related ordinance by the President's Office. ๐Ÿ’ฌ On his Facebook post, Mayor Shah sarcastically commented, "Now, an ordinance has been passed to give not only the river but also Tundikhel and the open platform to its workers." ๐ŸŽญ

๐Ÿ“œ The ordinance, titled "Ordinance-2081," was issued by President Ram Chandra Poudel upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers. It amends several Nepal Acts, including the Land Act 2021, Forest Act 2076, and Land Revenue Act 2076. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿก

๐ŸŽ‰ In a tone of irony, Shah congratulated the workers, stating, "Congratulations to the workers in the government." ๐Ÿฅ‚ His remarks have ignited discussions across social media platforms about the implications of this ordinance. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

๐Ÿ’ก According to sources from the Prime Minister's Office, the ordinance aims to provide land to landless individuals living on government and public land. The amendments are designed to expedite recommendations made by the Land Commission, prioritizing title deeds for these residents. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ Critics argue that this move could lead to the misuse of public spaces like Tundikhel and Khulamanch, while proponents claim it addresses a longstanding issue of landlessness in Nepal. ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿก Land Ordinance Issued Following PM's Assurance ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต

๐Ÿ“œ Three days after the recommendation from the Council of Ministers, the President's Office has officially issued the Nepal Act Amendment Ordinance-081, focusing on land reforms. This ordinance, which had been halted on December 11 due to provisions involving forest and national park land, has now been approved following Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's commitment to address concerns. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿšœ

๐Ÿค According to sources from Shital Niwas, the Prime Minister assured the President that land titles would only be distributed once, and any flaws in the ordinance would be corrected when the replacement bill is introduced in parliament. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

๐Ÿ“Œ The updated ordinance changes the law to allow land exceeding legal limits to be developed and sold within a specific timeframe after obtaining approval. However, land allocated for public purposes cannot be mortgaged or sold. ๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ—๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Significant provisions have been introduced to address the needs of marginalized communities, including:

  • ๐Ÿ  Free land ownership for landless Dalits and squatters.
  • ๐Ÿ“„ Ownership rights for unorganized settlers at a prescribed fee.
This move is seen as a step toward addressing longstanding issues of landlessness and unorganized settlements in Nepal. ๐ŸŒ

4-Jan-2025: Despite a reduction in the area dedicated to rice cultivation, Nepal has experienced remarkable growth in rice production this year. Favorable rainfall, the adoption of improved seed varieties, and easier access to fertilizers have played key roles in boosting both production and productivity. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, rice production has surged by 231,242 tons, reaching a total of 5,955,476 tonsโ€”marking a 4.04% increase compared to the previous year. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ This year, productivity has risen from 3.98 tons per hectare to 4.19 tons per hectare, signaling a positive trend. However, despite this growth, Nepal still faces a rice shortage of approximately 800,000 tons annually. ๐Ÿ“‰๐Ÿš While provinces like Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini, and the Far West have witnessed gains in both production and productivity, other regions, including Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali, have seen reductions in cultivation area. 2-Jan-2025:**Kathmandu** - Nepalโ€™s health insurance program, once seen as a beacon of affordable healthcare, is now under scrutiny as hospitals stop providing insurance-based treatments due to delayed payments from the **Health Insurance Board**. ๐Ÿ’ก **Health Insurance Board Challenges:**

  • No payments made to service providers since **last Chaitra**.
  • Hospitals demand an increase in the benefit package, citing unsustainable costs. ๐Ÿ’ฐ
